Thor Hammer manufactures only soft hammers and mallets
Thor Hammer are the UK’s, and possibly the worlds, foremost manufacturer of quality Soft Faced Hammers and Mallets and we are one of only two companies in the world manufacturing traditional Rawhide Mallets and Hammers from Buffalo Hide.
Made in England to high quality standards, our soft-faced hammers provide a safer alternative to striking with conventional steel hammers in industrial applications.
The resilient soft striking faces shape themselves to the part being struck. Acting as shock absorbers, they spread the force of the blow uniformly, minimising inefficient rebound and damage to components. Soft-faced hammers also reduce noise pollution in the workplace.
With over 150 different Hammers and Mallets available, we offer a wide range of product to suit all applications. Whilst some tend only to be suitable for specialist trades our Nylon, Copper and Rawhide products are substantial sellers throughout the Automotive and Engineering industries. We have been approved to ISO 9001:2000 since 1992 and many of our products also have unique Nato numbers for supply to the Ministry of Defence and Nato.
Our philosophy of focusing on manufacture, supply, quality and service has enabled us to establish long-term relationships with tool distributors and wholesalers worldwide. Many of these relationships have lasted over 50 years and more than 50% of our production is now exported.
Thor have, for over 30 years, exhibited at the Köln International Hardware & Tool Show and used this platform to secure and developed our export business. Subsequent regular worldwide customer visits have further strengthened our relationships with existing and potential customers.
We are able to trace our roots back to 1910 when Thor’s parent company, The Birmingham Belting Co Ltd, was founded in Snow Hill, Birmingham, by the Stephens family. Some 13 years later Thor Hammer Company Limited was incorporated and began producing soft hammers in Stratford Road, Sparkbrook, Birmingham.
The company was named after the ancient Norse God of Thunder who owned the most miraculous of hammers, Mjölnir, a throwing hammer, which always sped directly to its mark, slew the giant then rebounded straight back to Thor’s hand.
To this day Thor Hammer Company Limited remains a family business and has always been run by a member of the Stephens family. Currently there are two generations of the family working at the company and our Managing Director is the son of the original founder of the company.
